If the Properties panel is open left click on that icon, if not right click on that icon and select Properties, that will open the Crop Effect Properties window where it is very easy to set the top, bottom, left and right amount of cropping. Once at the start of the clip go into the Effects window and select Crop and drag it on to the clip, this will put a little Effects icon with a C for crop at the top of the start of the clip. The easiest way to do this is using the orange left and right buttons above the Timeline for Previous and Next Marker that also jump to the start or end of clips. Clip Properties - A clips properties are set in its first frame, otherwise you will create a keyframe, you can move the Playhead there using Previous/Next Marker orange arrows above the Timeline.But first make sure that the playhead is on the first frame of the clip you want to crop, otherwise it will set the crop at that time in the video where you set it and gradually change from no crop at the beginning of the clip to that crop setting in that place in the video.
To switch use Menu > File > Choose Profile. For example, if you are targeting 1080p 30fps, switch to that profile before you begin editing your project. It is best practice to always switch to your target profile before you begin editing. OpenShot Tips Project Profile - The default project profile is “HD 720p 24fps”. You can set it to Stretch but that will as it says stretch the 4:3 video, and also works for cinematic widescreen but in that case will squish the wider screen video to fit in the standard 16:9 widescreen. This will zoom into the video to fill the screen but it will crop the top and bottom for 4:3 or the sides for cinematic widescreen to achieve this as that is unavoidable. To remove either of those types of black bars right-click the clip and select Properties, in the Property window look for Scale on the left and right-click the Value on the right to change it from what is currently Best Fit to Crop. Video editors including OpenShot when adding clips to the Timeline use Best Fit to fit all of the video on screen which will create black bars on each side for old 4:3 videos or top and bottom for cinematic widescreen videos.
